This site is designed to help you understand your onboarding steps, find required forms and trainings, and to get you familiar with tools, resources, and campus life at Argonne.

Your Onboarding Journey

This step-by-step infographic represents a general framework for students hired and paid by Argonne National Laboratory. Depending on your student program, appointment type, or employment status, your required steps may differ. However, the journey map still provides a helpful reference to understand the overall process and identify where you may be in your onboarding timeline.

Student Hire Onboarding Journey Map. The infographic shows five stages in the onboarding process for new student hires at Argonne: 
1. Application Submission — includes Workday (Candidate) Application, Submit Reference Information, and Offer Letter. 
2. Pre-Hire Tasks — includes Workday Candidate Tasks, Background Screening, Drug Screening*, Pre-Placement Health Screening, Travel & Housing Logistics, and Reference Checks, Funding Letters, and School Verification*. 
3. On the First Day — includes Orientation, Argonne Email Access, I-9 Form (Section 1 Only), and Workday Update Information Tasks. 
4. Within the First Week — includes Job Hazard Questionnaire (JHQ), Workday/TMS Learning Courses, Argonne Badge*, I-9 Form (Section 2), Alien Determination of Residency Form (ANL-675), Payment Election*, Federal and State W-4 (Tax Forms), Flexible Work Arrangement Form, and Dayforce Timesheet*. 
5. Within the First Month — includes Enroll in a New Hire Bus Tour and Enroll in Benefits*.

Understanding Your Position

Each student has a position that falls into one of three main categories. The type of position you have determines which forms and onboarding steps are required. The number of tasks can vary. Some students may be asked to complete only a few, while others may be assigned more. The infographic below shows the three appointment types and sample programs under each.
